The implementation of Iloilo City’s enhanced Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) may begin in the second quarter of 2023.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) turned over the approved LPTRP to the city government last week.

Richard Osmeña, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) regional director, said he is expecting the implementation to take effect in May.

He is hopeful of a smooth implementation as the the city’s LPTRP is complementary to that of Iloilo province’s route plan.

The LPTRP, which contains the rationalized route mapping and corresponding motor vehicles allowed to operate, is the core component of the Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) Modernization Act.

Meanwhile, City Councilor Sedfrey Cabaluna said the proposed adoption of the enhanced Local LPTRP is now at the committee level and set for hearing on Today, March 28.

“We will amend the original ordinance to incorporate the approved changes. It’s on the committee level na. We will have a hearing on Tuesday,” said Cabaluna.

The implementation of city’s original route plan was suspended last year to give way to some modifications.

Earlier, Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) head Jeck Conlu said there will be a massive information dissemination first before the full implementation of the enhanced LPTRP.

Currently, there are nearly 300 modernized jeepneys operating in the city out of the 1,767 target for the 25 approved routes.IMT
