The Iloilo Private Schools Athletic Association (ILOPRISAA) secondary boys’ basketball and football teams completed a double celebration as they snatched the titles in the 2020 Western Visayas PRISAA at the Villarreal Stadium in Roxas City, Capiz.
The Ilonggo booters took revenge after ousting Negros Occidental (NOPSSCEA) team in the secondary boys’ football, 3-2.
Represented by Central Philippine University (CPU), the team was led by goal scorers James Karl Tuazon, Wrenz Ivan Lopez and Khent Brian Valenzuela. The newly-crowned champions dethroned NOPSSCEA-University of St. La Salle in their do-or-die clash.
Both teams showed an emphatic opening appearances, with NOPSSCEA drawing first blood after Joshua Limco’s conversion in the 28th minute.
Hungry for the crown, ILOPRISAA team answered one back in the second half with a hit from Tuazon that extended the match.
After the end of the regulation time, ILOPRISAA punched back-to-back goals from Lopez and Valenzuela in the 84th and 87th minute to banner the score to 3-1. NOPSSCEA were able to add one goal before the time runs out.
Other winning booters were Jose Maria Bellosillo, Hazael Cejar, John Christian Doyola, Ross Alfred Ferrer, Matthew Gabileo, Mark Gedaya, Johann Javellana, Francis Pueblo, Selwyn Mamon, Rejie Rafols, Paul Silao, Christian Vega, Rolf Alminaza, Zymone Binas, Jerein Dejando, Jil Pillora, Aaron Sumagaysay and Mel Supeña.
To recall, NOPSSCEA dominated Iloilo with a 4-2 victory before the latter forced the decider with a 2-1 drubbing.
Meanwhile, ILOPRISAA basketball boys led by Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix won the title after blasting NOPSSCEA-Colegio de Sta. Ana de Victorias, 97-78, in the finals.
Dave Bagatnan paced the champions with 19 points, while Julian Mavrick Puerto and Reneil Gamboa chipped in 17 and 15 points, respectively.
The ILOPRISAA cagers ruled the game early that resulted to a double-digit advantage. Trailing by 22 points, the Negrenses tried to get their rhythm but the Vincent Conlu-mentored ILOPRISAA easily bagged the coveted title.
Before winning the finals, the team was undefeated which granted them an outright entry to the finals.
Also part of the ILOPRISAA squad were Cedrick Manzano, Ritchie Galvez, Jessie Beker, Jann Paolo Villariza, Lorenzo Yu, Seon Zigua, Jaspher Antijendra, Victor Palileo, Josephus Ubamus, Kirk Zabal and Clint Sabio.
All winners in the regional meet will represent Western Visayas in the National PRISAA in Tuguegarao City. IMT
