The Iloilo City Government has appealed to the public to welcome the new year without using firecrakers and pyrotechnic devices to avoid injuries.

For a safer and celebration of New Year’s Eve, Jeck Conlu, head of the city government’s Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO), suggested the use of alternative noisemakers like torotot.

“Ang pagpalupok abi medyo mabudlay gid man siya i-monitor. Every year ginamonitor man naton ina kay may mga designated [areas] kita,” he said in a media interview.

“May patrolling kita upod sang PNP. Kon matimingan ka ti mapreso ka gid. May ara kita team nga galibot gid na ya kada New Year,” Conlu added.

Under the latest executive order issued by Mayor Jerry Treñas, the use of fireworks and pyrotechnic devices is only allowed at a portion of the Iloilo River Esplanade in Barangay Progreso, Lapuz district.IMT
