An Ilonggo Math wizard from St. Joseph School Iloilo Inc. made the Ilonggo community and the country proud after winning two medals at the Asian Science and Mathematics Olympiad for Primary and Secondary Schools (ASMOPSS 12) in Bangli Regency in Bali Indonesia.

Gihun Ng Yoo, who represented the country in the prestigious competition, pocketing the bronze medal in the Theoretical Round of Primary Math Individual Event while helping his team bagged the second runner-up award in Exploration Round.

The Grade 8 student of St. Joseph School was part of the 14-man Philippine team who competed in Indonesia and the lone Ilonggo who captured medals after surviving the Math Olympiad competition. He dominated students from Vietnam, Thailand, Tajikistan, and Indonesia.

Gihun is a member of Asian MathSci League Inc. (AMSLI), and according to coach Irish Mae Palomo, the triumph of his student is a history making as they are the first batch of students to compete internationally after almost two years of pandemic.
