Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has called on the public to protect themselves not only against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), but also against dengue.
“They should be alarmed in the sense that they should be aware of presence of dengue all over the city,” Treñas said.
From January 1 to May 16, 2020, the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit recorded 145 cases of dengue, including one death.
The highest number of cases in the city was reported in Jaro district with 37.
Molo came in second with 24 cases, followed by City Proper with 23 cases, La Paz and Arevalo districts with 18 cases each, Mandurriao with 15 cases and Lapuz with 10 cases.
Most of the dengue patients belong to the 1-10 age bracket.
The total cases in the first five month of the year was lower by 74.2 percent compared to 562 cases, including five deaths, in the same period a year ago.
Treñas urged the residents to clean their sorroundings to combat the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.IMT
