Ilonggo Senator Franklin Drilon has filed a joint resolution seeking to extend the franchise of media giant ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation until the end of 2022.

The TV network’s 25-year franchise will expire on March 20, 2020.

In Senate Joint Resolution No. 11, Drilon cited the need for more time for the House of Representatives and Senate to review and assess the application for renewal of ABS-CBN.

The senator noted that there are only 12 session days left before the next adjournment of Congress scheduled on March 14, 2020.

“On March 30, 2020, more than 11,000 families will go home jobless and millions of viewers will be affected if we do not act on this resolution immediately, I therefore urge for the immediate passage of this resolution,” Drilon said.

There are 12 bills filed in Congress seeking to renew ABS-CBN’s franchise. All these are pending in the House Committee on Legislative Franchises.IMT
