Ilongga cyclist Ariana Dormitorio failed to finish strong in the Olympic Qualifying Asian MTB Championship in Lebanon.
This after she sustained a left gluteal muscle injury while in the race.
Dormitorio failed to finish first, which could automatically qualify her to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She landed at 11th spot.
The Ilongga rider was in the lead but after reaching a steep climb were all the racers pushed their bikes up, she felt her gluteal muscle got pulled.
“She sustained a left gluteal muscle injury while in the race. She injured her left gluteal muscle while pushing her bike up an unridable hill right at the start of the race,” shared Dormitorio’s father, Donjie.
But despite her injury, the Ilongga rider still finished the race. There are still Olympic qualifying tournaments like the 2019 Southeast Asian Games later this year for Dormitorio.
Meanwhile, in volleyball games, Bacolod Tay Tung High School wrapped up the 10th St. Ignatius Invitational Volleyball Cup with a silver medal finish.
The team was defeated by University of San Jose-Recoletos in the finals at the Lux Oriens Gym at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City over the weekend.
Tay Tung team manager Jose Montalbo said they are still happy with the victory, especially that they fielded younger players for experience.IMT
