Teams from First and Fifth Congressional Districts made outstanding debut in the opening of the 2019 Iloilo School Sports Council Meet as they harvested gold medals at the Iloilo Sports Complex (ISC) in Iloilo City.
After the opening on Sunday, Dec. 8, CDSA 5 showed sterling performances in the athletics events. Daryl John Bantiling led the team after snatching the gold medal in the elementary boys’ long jump. He defeated CDSA 2’s Mark Bautista and Jay Christian Roguio of CDSA 4.
Rhealyn De Costa also took home two gold medals in the secondary girls shot put and discus throw. They also ruled some archery events. Mae Lyn Navarro got two gold medals in the secondary girls’ 30m and 50m before taking home the silver medal in the 40m category. Her teammate Shann Michael Sumagaysay captured another gold in the secondary boys’ 30m and silver in 50m division.
Meanwhile, CDSA 1 also made their presence felt in the ongoing provincial meet. In archery, Ric Warren Magapa captured the gold in secondary boys’ 50m and silver in 30m. Jade Ann Nierves added one gold and one silver in secondary girls’ 40m and 30m, respectively.
The First District also clinched the gold medal after Franklin Catela outmuscled Niño Calubayan of CDSA 4 and John Ceriaco of CDSA 5 in the elementary boys’ high jump. They also won gold medals in the secondary boys’ and girl’s high jump, courtesy of Hilario Tagat and Cathy Nebran.
The Iloilo Private Schools Athletic Association (ILOPRISAA) retained its supremacy in the taekwondo events after bagging 24 gold, eight silver and five bronze medals. They were named overall champions in both the elementary and secondary divisions.IMT
