The last undefeated team in the ongoing Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) Season 1 has fallen from the hands of Iloilo.

With a determined spirit, Iloilo Kisela Knights upset the unbeatable squad of Caloocan Loadmanna Knights in a scintillating clash, 11.5-9.5 on Saturday night.

It was a dazzling night for Women FIDE Master (WFM) Cherry Ann Mejia, Cesar Mariano, Fritz Bryan Porras and John Michael Silvederio as they contributed one win each while Karl Victor Ochoa halved point with his foe as they survived Caloocan in Blitz, 4.5-2.5.

Mejia, Mariano and Dennis Bernas tallied two points each while Grand Master (GM) Joey Antonio added a point as they tied the rapid game with Loadmanna Knights, 7-7.

The Ilonggo-based professional chess club posted their second consecutive victory after a lopsided 18-3 feat over Cagayan Kings to share the top spot in Southern Division with 11-2 win-loss card.

“Napirde ang isa ka game sang Camarines, amo man ang Negros so 3 way tie ang Southern at 11-2 win-loss. Ang advantage naton kay nagdaog kita sa top sang north. Negros and Camarines still need to prove they can also do that for Caloocan to keep the balance,” shared Kisela owner Leo Sotaridona.

Against Cagayan, Kisela easily dismantled the former in the Blitz game with Antonio, Mejia, Mariano, Porras, Silvederio, Ilongga Fiona Guirhem and Mark Mariano doing the damage. They sustained the momentum in the Rapid event with Antonio, Mejia, Silvederio, Cesar Mariano and Bernas contributing two points each, while Karl Viktor Ochoa added one point.

Meanwhile, Negros Kingsmen scored a win and a loss for a 11-2 win loss slate.

They defeated Olongapo Rainbow, 16-5 remain on top of the Southern standings with Kisela Knights and Camarines Soaring Eagle.

International Master (IM) Joel Pimentel of Bacolod City, FIDE Master (FM) Judge Rosendo Bandal, FM Randy Segarra and FM Rolzon Roullo scored a point each for the Kingsmen in the Blitz event. Segarra, Bandal, Pimentel, Roullo, Arena Grandmaster (AGM) Kajoy Acedo and Nayk Aguilar Segismar registered two points each to lead the Kingsmen in Rapid event against Camarines.

Kisela Knights will face Laguna Heroes and Antipolo Cobras on Wednesday while the Kingsmen will take on Cavite Spartans and Isabela Knight Raiders.IMT
