An ordinance granting “monetary rewards” to residents of Iloilo province who reach the age of 85, 95 and 100 has been approved on third and final reading.

“Maayo nga balita para sa mga katigulangan nga 85 kag 95 [years old]. Indi na kinahanglan maghulat 100 years old agud mabaton ninyo ang centenarian award gikan sa Iloilo Provincial Government,” said Iloilo Fifth District Board Member Carol-V Espinosa-Diaz, author of the ordinance.

Elderlies, under the newly approved measure, will receive P5 thousand when they reach the age of 85 and 95.

Centenarians or those who attained the age of 100 will get P20 thousand. This is on top of the P100 thousand cash gift from the national government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Diaz said the cash rewards can help seniors buy their needs, especially medicines.IMT
