The Iloilo Provincial Government has relaunched its clean-up drive dubbed “Limpyo MGCQ” recently to help combat the transmission of diseases including the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and dengue.
Iloilo governor Arthur Defensor, Jr., sought public support to this initiative that has been revitalized as preparation for the start of the rainy season.
“Handaan naton ang pag-abot sang tion sang tig-ululan, tinluan naton ang aton palibot agud matapna ang pagdamu sang lamok nga nagadala sang balatian nga dengue (Let us prepare for the start of the rainy season; let us clean our surroundings to control the vector that causes dengue),” he said.
He encouraged the public to revive the 4 o’clock habit, which is a strategy that mobilizes residents, together with barangay officials, to take time out to “search and destroy possible mosquito-breeding places” at 4 p.m. every day.
Defensor emphasized that while the community is engaged in this clean-up initiative, they should not forget to still implement the “3Ms” against COVID-19.
“Magmaskara (wear mask), magdistansya (observe social distancing) and manghinaw (wash hands),” he said.
He added that everyone’s support is necessary to prevent dengue while the province is still in the midst of the COVID pandemic.JSC/LTP/PIA6 Iloilo
