The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) recorded 195 fire incidents in the province of Iloilo from January 1 to February 28 this year.
These incidents left an estimated P16.6 million worth of damage to properties.
Last year, the BFP logged 532 fire incidents in the province with a total damage of P105. 32 million and 783 fires in 2020 with P63.17 damage to properties.
The amount of damage last year, although it had fewer incidents, was higher compared to 2020 due to the fire that hit the public market of Oton town last December.
The incidents in the past two years killed 14 and injured 43 civilians and four firefighters.
The BFP kicked off the observance of Fire Prevention Month on Tuesday, March 1, with
Fire Supt. Christopher Regencia, BFP provincial director, motorcades conducted by fire stations in their respective towns.
The theme for this year’s observance “Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog Hindi ka Nag-iisa!”
