The province of Iloilo recorded the most number of new COVID-19 cases in Western Visayas on Sunday, March 21.

Based on data released by the Department of Health (DOH-6), the province logged 61 new infections, 37 of which are considered indigenous (transmitted locally), 21 are locally stranded individuals (LSIs), and 2 are returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs).

The additional cases brought the province’s total case count to 5,058.

Of the figure, 4,381 have recovered, 130 have died, and 546 are active cases or patients who are still infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Iloilo City accounted for the second highest number of new COVID-19 cases in the region with 45, all are indigenous.

Aklan contributed 21 new cases; Bacolod City, 11; and Guimaras, 7.

All in all, the whole region registered 146 new infections.

Since the pandemic was declared in March last year, WV has recorded a total of 26,592 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 24, 294 recoveries, 766 deaths, and 1,526 active cases.

The entire region is currently under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), the least restrictive of the four lockdown levels.IMT
