The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) is currently monitoring barangay officials with suspected links to illegal drugs.
IPPO spokesperson Police Major Rolando Araño said they are keeping a close watch on incumbent punong barangays and kagawads allegedly involved in illegal drugs.
He did disclose the number of village officials — who are either drug users or peddlers or protectors — on their watchlist.
From January to July this year, three officials in the province were nabbed in separate anti-drug operations. The suspects were from San Enrique, Banate and Zarraga.
With the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) just months away, Araño appealed to voters not to choose those who have involvement in illegal drugs.
BSKE will be held on October 30 this year.IMT
