Mayor Jerry P. Treñas expressed elation over the report that Iloilo City took up the largest business process outsourcing (BPO) space in 2020.
The city, according to Leechiu Property Consultants (LCP), accounted for 48,000 square meters (sqm) of the total net take-up of 191,000 sqm last year.
It outpaced Makati (35,000 sqm), Ortigas (27,000 sqm), Bonifacio Global City in Taguig (24,000 sqm), and Cebu (16,000 sqm) in terms of BPO investments.
“I am very happy to know that Iloilo City is top of mind [area among BPO companies and other businesses],” said Treñas.
“I think they see the city is safe. We have a very proactive city government that talks to them about the problem of the BPOs and nalipay gid ako because this will provide employment for our new graduates,” he further said.
The mayor assured investors that Iloilo will “remain a liveable and sustainable city.”
Treñas shared that Megaworld Corporation, developer of the 72-hectare Iloilo Business Park township in Mandurriao district, is planning to convert the third floor of Festive Walk Mall into a BPO office space.
“Kadamu na gid kuno nagapangayo sa ila nga dugang nga offices for BPO,” he said.IMT
