The Department of Health (DOH-6) confirmed on Tuesday, Aug. 23, that the country’s fourth monkeypox patient is from the province of Iloilo.
The 25-year-old male patient, according to the DOH-6, “worked in Iloilo City with no documented travel history to or from any country with confirmed cases of monkeypox.”
He is currently being treated and isolated in a hospital in the city.
In an interview with Mayor Jerry Treñas, he disclosed that the infected fast food chain employee last reported for work on July 16.
The patient’s test result came out on Aug. 19, confirming his infection.
Fourteen close contacts of the patient have been so far identified.
“All close contacts are being monitored. Investigation is still ongoing to find out the source of infection,” the DOH-6 said.
Monkeypox is a viral disease that spreads through skin-to-skin contact. Its symptoms are “mild and the disease is rarely fatal.”IMT
