Some local government units (LGUs) in Iloilo province have already exceeded the target coverage for the measles-rubella oral polio vaccine supplemental immunization activity (MR OPV SIA) that is currently implemented this month.

According to data from the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (PHO), 12 LGUs have breached the 95 percent target for measles-rubella vaccination, while three LGUs have exceeded the target for oral polio vaccination.

Dr. Soccoro Quiñon, PHO officer-in-charge, said that health workers continue to perform their tasks of delivering the vaccines to children, despite the threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“Our accomplishment in the MR OPV SIA gives our health workers and LGU officials a source of inspiration and hope,” she said.

As of February 16, 2021, the following LGUs have reached the target vaccination coverage for MR: Lemery, Carles, Dueñas, Lambunao, Passi City, Dingle, Tigbauan, Batad, San Dionisio, Guimbal, Barotac Viejo, and Cabatuan.

For OPV, the municipalities of Carles, Lemery, and Dueñas have exceeded the 95 percent target coverage.

Meanwhile, Iloilo Province ranked first among the provinces in the region in terms of MR vaccination accomplishment with 74.96 percent, as of Feb. 14, 2021, as per data from the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development.
