The heat index in the province and city of Iloilo soared to 41 degrees Celsius (°C) on Friday, May 8, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
This was the highest heat index recorded so far this year in Iloilo, said engineer Michael Viola, PAGASA-Iloilo weather observer.
The heat index is the temperature felt by the human body.
A heat index between 41 and 54 degrees Celsius is considered “dangerous” by PAGASA and poses health risks.
“Kapag matagal ang exposure sa direct light ng araw ay pwede itong magcause ng heat stroke,” said Viola.
The weather observer advised the public to stay indoors and keep themselves hydrated.
“Uminom po tayo ng maraming tubig at manatili sa parti ng bahay hindi mainit lalu na angm ga matatanda,” Viola said.IMT
