The Iloilo Kisela Knights wrapped up the elimination round of 2022 Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) Third Conference with a blowout win against PCL-Pagadian, 13-8.
Showing the true spirit of a champion, the Leo Sotaridona-owned professional chess team concluded the eliminations with an impressive 29-4 win-loss card.
Starting the assault, the Ilonggos scored a 4-3 in blitz game be before trampling Pagadian, 9-5 triumph in the rapid event, thanks to full points each given by Karl Victor Ochoa in Board 2, Rolly Parondo Jr. in Board 5, John Michael Silvederio in Board 6, and Horizon Villanueva in Board 7.
In rapid, the Iloilo-based team relied on the heroics of Ochoa, Fiona Geeneweth Guirhem in Board 3, Parondo, Giovanni Mejia in Board 1, Silvederio and Villanueva.
With the victory, Kisela will take on Camarines-Iriga Soaring Eagle for the quarterfinals.
“Same as usual lang po. Review ng opening at games ng mga kalaban lalo na mga latest nalaro nila. Professional naman mga players sa lahat ng team sa PCAP kaya inaasahan kong gagawin din nila yun. Saka kunting jogging at exercise para kondisyon po,” shared Parondo.
Meanwhile, Negros Kingsmen, cruised to a 14-7 victory against Cebu City Machers for third place in the division with 28 wins and five defeats.
Negros easily shattered the Cebuanos in the blitz event with full points by Joel Pimentel (Board 1), Edsel Montoya (Board 2) and Rolzon Roullo (Board 7) and 0.50 by Bernadette Galas (Board 3) and Ted Ian Montoyo (Board 5). They also dominated the Machers in the rapid event following the full two points each from Pimentel, Montoyo, Galas and Montoyo and one point each from Galas and Roullo.
