The Iloilo City Government’s Compliance Team against COVID-19 has a new head.
Nestor Canong, who also serves as chairperson of the Task Force on Morals and Values Formation, replaced Fernando Jose “Boyet” Rico.
The appointment of Canong was announced by Mayor Jerry Treñas on Thursday, May 27.
“It is with regret that I accept the resignation of Mr. Fernando Jose Rico as head of the Compliance Team. I thank Boyet for his work as head of the Compliance Team for more than a year,” the mayor said in a statement.
“I am appointing Nestor Canong as the new head of the Compliance Team. I will make such reorganization as may be necessary,” he further stated.
Rico found himself in hot water after he violated quarantine protocol.
On Tuesday, May 25, Rico posted on his personal Facebook account photos of him and several other City Hall employees in a restaurant. “Lunch after swabbing,” he said in his caption.
The following day, the compliance officer admitted that he committed violations and apologized.
“Gin-ako ko nga may sala ako. I know nga may protocol pero kinanglan ko lang gid magkaon kay kon malipong ako sa dalanon, dal-on ako sa ospital,” Rico said in an interview over radio station Aksyon Radyo-Iloilo.
“I’m asking for an apology. Para sa akon, nakasala man gid ako. Galing kay ginagutom ako. Ginahypo ako.”
Rico, however, will remain as executive assistant for barangay affairs of Treñas.IMT
