The number of active coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Iloilo City continues to decrease.

The Department of Health (DOH-6) bulletin on Sunday, Nov. 22, showed that the city’s active cases dropped further to 164.

Active cases involve patients who are still infected with COVID-19.

The city logged single-digit numbers of new infections over the weekend.

On Saturday, Nov. 21, the City Health Office (CHO) recorded six new cases and 7 on Sunday.

The city also saw a 75 percent decline in the average number of daily new cases from 53 in October to 13 this month (Nov. 1-18).

Despite the improved figures, City Mayor Jerry Trenas urged the public to stay vigilant.

“With the lack of a safe and effective vaccine, vigilance is vital to secure the safety of the community. Let us work together to combat the effects of COVID-19,” he said.

The total tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the city currently stands at 4,299, of which 4,020 have recovered and 115 have died.

In the whole Western Visayas region, Negros Occidental has the most number of active cases with 930, followed by Iloilo province (272) and Bacolod City (269), Capiz (71), Aklan (48), Guimaras (21), and Antique (2).IMT
