The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) escalated the quarantine status of Iloilo City, which reported its first COVID-19 Omicron variant on Wednesday, Jan. 5.

From Alert Level 2, the city will placed under the stricter Alert Level 3 starting Sunday, Jan. 9, until Jan. 15.

The decision, approved by President Rodrigo Duterte, was announced by acting Presidential Spokesman and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles on Thursday night, January 6.

Under Alert Level 3, face-to-face classes, contact sports, funfairs (peryas), live voice/wind instrument, and casino, among others, are not allowed.

“We will make use of this time to stay at home as much as possible, maintain strictly the minimum health protocols, no mass gatherings and reduce capacities in our work places and businesses,” Mayor Jerry Treñas said in a statement.

“Let us stay at home and isolate once we are feeling unwell and be tested. And let us be vaccinated and get our booster shots,” he added.

Meanwhile, the province of Iloilo will remain under Alert Level 2.IMT
