The Iloilo City Government will be acquiring tow trucks and clamping equipment as it strengthens its campaign against illegal parking to clear roads from obstructions.
Jeck Conlu, head of the Public Safety Transportation Management Office (PSTMO), said the acquisition of the equipment to complement the campaign was temporarily put on hold due to the pandemic.
“We have an ordinance but due to the pandemic the acquisition was put on hold due to prioritization of funds,” he said in an interview on Wednesday, Jan. 11.
The Iloilo City Clamping Ordinance that allows the city government to engage a third party is currently being reviewed by the City Legal Office, he added.
Starting Jan. 10, Conlu said four dedicated teams were created to apprehend illegally parked vehicles.
“Rain or shine we started with the campaign,” he said.
The first day of the campaign netted 128 violators.
It will be a year-round campaign together with the Iloilo City Police Office and soon with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Conlu said.
Those caught parking illegally will be given citation tickets to pay the P200 penalty.
If the drivers are not around during the time of apprehension, the vehicle will be alarmed and the complaint filed before the LTO so that they need to settle their due with the city government first before the vehicle can be renewed.
However, the PSTMO will temporarily suspend their operation during the three-day highlights of the Dinagyang Festival on Jan 20-22, since all its personnel will be on board for the implementation of the festival traffic management plan.Perla Lena/PNA
