Using its purchased vaccines against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Iloilo City Government will start inoculating the general population next month.
According to Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, the initial batch of AstraZeneca vaccines they procured arrived in the city last week.
“We will vaccinate those 18-years and above so we can gradually achieve herd immunity,” he said.
As of July 26, at least 59, 234 individuals or almost 14 percent of the total target population in Iloilo City have been fully vaccinated, while some 29 percent or 129, 269 persons had their first dose.
The city’s vaccination rollout continues in mega vax sites and barangay sites.
Treñas explained that since the vaccines are purchased by the local government unit, there will be no conditions as to who will be vaccinated, unlike the donated jabs that must first go to health workers, senior citizens, persons with comorbidities and indigent citizens.
The city government purchased a total of 670, 000 doses of UK-made AstraZeneca vaccines, and so far, 18, 000 doses were delivered to the city.
To prevent overcrowding in vaccination sites, Treñas said the city government will come up with the guidelines.IMT
