Iloilo City to open all cemeteries during ‘Fiesta Minatay’ observance

All cemeteries and memorial parks in Iloilo City will be allowed to accommodate visitors up to their full capacity or 100 percent during Fiesta Minatay this year.

“We continue to slowly go back to normal. The personnel of CENRO (City Environment and Natural Resources Office) will continue to clean and prepare the public cemeteries,” said City Mayor Jerry Treñas.

“PNP (Philippine National Police), PSTMO (Public Safety and Transportation Management Office), and CDRRMO (City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office) together with volunteer groups and the Red Cross will prepare the plans for a safe observance of Undas,” he added.

The observance of Fiesta Minatay or Undas on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2, or All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days, respectively, is part of the Catholic tradition.

This is the time when families visit the resting places of their departed loved ones to offer prayers and food.IMT
