The Iloilo City Government will develop a beach forest as part of its efforts to “mitigate the effects of climate change.”
Mayor Jerry Treñas said the 1.6-hectare Iloilo City Beach Forest in Molo district is among the city government’s priority projects.
He assigned the City Environment and Natural Resources Office to supervise the development of the beach forest.
“As we continuously make infrastructural developments in the metro, we envision compensating through equally building greens all over the city,” said Treñas.
The city government also plans to build a conservation information center to serve as display area of photos, IEC materials, briefing area for visitors, biodiversity conservation, and environmental awareness activities, among others.
Likewise, it eyes to put up a plant nursery and a “pawikan” hatchery.IMT
