A six-day hard lockdown will be imposed in Iloilo City to slow the spread of the more transmissible COVID-19 Delta variant in the metropolis.

“From Aug. 3 to 8, I will place the city on hard lockdown as protection for everyone here,” Mayor Jerry Treñas said on Monday, August 2.

Treñas made the decision following a meeting with the city government’s COVID-19 Team that recommended the stringent protocols to be followed.

“Aklan and Cebu are both experiencing a surge; their hospitals are full with patients already being confined outside the facility. We don’t want the same scenario in Iloilo City,” he said.

Operations of non-essential establishments or those not related to food and medicine will be temporarily stopped.

Selling and consumption of alcoholic drinks will be banned.

Inbound flights and sea travel of persons going to Iloilo City from all areas, including authorized persons outside residence, returning residents and returning overseas Filipinos, will be suspended starting Aug. 4 until Aug. 8.

Treñas said an executive order containing all other prohibitions will be released within the day.IMT
