The Iloilo City Government will adopt the Electronic Business Process Licensing System (eBPLS) starting next year to deliver public service more efficiently.

Introduced and developed by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), eBPLS “allows end-users to file applications for new and renewal of business permits online.”

The cloud-based eBPLS software lessens in-person transactions and make the business permit and licensing process faster and easier.

Velma Jane Lao, City Local Economic Development and Investment Promotion officer, said they already recommended the enactment of an ordinance implementing eBPLS in the city.

The proposed measure, according to Lao, “is now with the [City Legal Office].”

The city government is eyeing to launch the electronic licensing system before the end of the year.

Lao said all business operators and new business applicants are required to register online “because we need to set up the clean data base which will be the basis for their yearly renewal.

At least 17 thousand business owners in the city are expected to renew their permits in January 2022.IMT
