The Iloilo City Government is targeting to vaccinate 100 percent of its population against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“Together with the national government thru the vaccine czar, the city government with the City Council will look for ways and means to provide 100% vaccines for all city residents for free,” Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said in a statement.

“We will follow the priorities given by the national government for the vaccination of the population,” he added.

The city government has earmarked P200 million for the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines for its constituents.

Yesterday, Jan. 5, the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) approved two resolutions relative to the COVID-19 vaccine procurement.

The first resolution authorized Treñas to enter into a confidentiality agreement with AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals (Phil) Inc.

The second resolution authorized the mayor to represent the Iloilo City Government in negotiating and concluding Agreements; to sign, execute and deliver such agreements and other pertinent papers, instruments, and documents, and to do all acts and things necessary, proper, and convenient under the premises for and in behalf of Iloilo City with AstraZeneca.

AstraZeneca is one of the largest multinational pharmaceutical companies in the Philippines.

As of Tuesday, the city logged 4,684 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 4,408 recoveries and 149 deaths. Of the total infection count, only 126 are active cases.IMT
