The Department of Health (DOH-6) is monitoring the condition of a patient under investigation (PUI) for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Iloilo City.
Dr. Jane Juanico, head of the Infectious Disease Section of Western Visayas’ health department, confirmed on Thursday, March 12, that a 30-year-old Filipina is confined in a hospital in the city.
The Filipina, who manifested symptoms of COVID-19, had a travel history to Indonesia.
“The patient is experiencing cough and fever,” said Juanico.
To date, Indonesia has 34 confirmed cases of the dreaded disease, which originated in a wild animal market in Wuhan, China.
According to Juanico, the Filipina arrived in Iloilo City last March 5.
A sample taken from the PUI was already sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Manila for testing.
All in all, the DOH-6 recorded 43 PUIs as of March 12.
Juanico said 42 of the PUIs in the region tested negative for COVID-19.IMT
