Twenty-eight more deaths due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were recorded on Tuesday, Aug. 17, in Iloilo City.
These new fatalities brought the COVID-19 death toll in the city to 417, the latest Department of Health (DOH-6) bulletin showed.
The DOH-6 also reported the death of 29 patients in Aklan and one patient in Capiz.
All in all, Western Visayas registered 58 coronavirus-related casualties, the highest single-day tally of deaths since the pandemic broke out in March last year.
There are now 2,232 total COVID-19 deaths the whole region.
Meanwhile, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Western Visayas rose to 94,851, of which 81,804 have recovered and 10,791 are considered active cases.
Iloilo province accounted for the most number of active cases at 3,503, followed by Aklan, 1,685; Negros Occidental, 1,325; Iloilo City, 1,320; Antique, 1,108; Capiz, 873; Bacolod City, 729; and Guimaras.IMT
