Iloilo City logged 16 new cases of the highly transmissible Omicron variant, the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) reported on Wednesday, Jan. 26.
Six of them are from La Paz district, five from Mandurriao, three from Jaro, and one each from Arevalo and Molo.
The City Health Office’s CESU received the results of the genome sequencing from Manila on Tuesday, Jan. 25.
“Two have not yet recovered so they were referred to infectious disease specialists. The recovered 14 will be swabbed again; if negative, there will be no more quarantine,” said CESU head Dr. Marigold Calsas.
“Others were advised by their personal doctors for re-swab and quarantine pending results,” she added.
According to Calsas, nine of the Omicron-infected patients “had history of travel to Boracay during the holidays.”
Thirteen of them have been vaccinated against COVID-19 while three are unvaccinated.
Half of the cases are asymptomatic while the rest have exhibited symptoms such as cough, fatigue, fever, runny nose and sneezing. All were home quarantined.IMT
