The Iloilo City Government, represented by Mayor Jerry Treñas, inked a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on Monday, Nov. 22, with the Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc. and San Jose Parish for the staging of the Dinagyang Festival 2022.
For the second time, the festival will be celebrated virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, according to Treñas.
But the mayor said they do not discount the possibility of holding a “blended celebration” of the world-famous festival.
The entire city is currently under COVID-19 Alert Level 2.
Treñas assured that the focus of the “more inclusive” festival will remain on the faith and devotion of the Ilonggos.
“Because behind all of this, is our deep devotion to Señor Sto. Niño,” Treñas stressed.
“Dinagyang is Iloilo City’s pride showing our yearly devotion to Señor Sto. Niño which continues to guide us despite the adversities. This is the most important celebration in the Ilonggos’ lives,” he added.IMT
