Public plazas in Iloilo City will no longer be allowed to be used as venues for fiesta fairs starting next year.
“This would be the last time na nila nga pag-usar,” said Treñas in an interview on Monday, Oct. 14.
“No more ‘ukay-ukay’ and other trade activities inside our plazas especially during fiestas,” the mayor added.
According to Treñas, all plazas in the metropolis will undergo rehabilitation.
The mayor said Ilonggo Senator Franklin Drilon has already lobbied the rehab plan to the Department of Tourism (DOT) and its infrastructure arm, the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA)
“So ang tanan ta nga plaza paobra na na. Ang Mandurriao (plaza), obrahon na na between P30 to P40 million, and so on and so forth ang tanan nga plaza,” said Treñas.
The mayor urged village chiefs to start looking for places for those affected.
“Pwede man magamit ang gymnasiums as alternative venues for fiesta fairs,” he said.IMT
