The Iloilo City Government is planning to open a drive-through coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination site.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said the plan aims to reduce contacts between healthcare workers and vaccinees.
“Once it is in place we will announce the site for those who are interested,” said Treñas.
According to the mayor, the city government is currently in talks with two big malls for the conduct of drive-thru vaccination.
Treñas believes that this will encourage more individuals to get vaccinated or to receive their booster shots.
He reiterated the importance of vaccination and boosters amid the rising number of Omicron cases in the city.
Health officials have been vouching for the effectiveness of vaccines in preventing COVID-19 deaths, severe infections and hospital admissions, which overwhelm medical facilities.
Data from the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) showed that five out of six COVID-19 deaths from January 1-24, 2022 were unvaccinated.IMT
