Mayor Jerry Treñas has expressed alarm over the high number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) deaths recorded in Iloilo City this month.
The City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) logged 24 COVID-19 deaths from Aug. 1 to 30.
According to Treñas, all the 24 who died due to COVID-19 were unvaccinated. Majority of them were senior citizens and persons with comorbidities.
Based on the Aug. 30 bulletin issued by the Department of Health (DOH), the city has logged a total of 430 COVID-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic last year.
Its active cases currently stand at 1,521, the second highest in the whole Western Visayas region.IMT
