Iloilo City emerged as the second most visited destination in Western Visayas, based on the latest Regional Distribution of Overnight Travelers.
The city — known for its sumptuous dishes, historical landmarks, and colorful festivals —recorded more than 752,000 overnight travelers in 2022.
Tourism Officer Junel Divinagracia said the high number of visitors indicates that the city is well on its way to recovery from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement, Mayor Jerry Treñas said he was thrilled that the city became the second most preferred destination in the region last year.
“Iloilo City takes pride in our commitment to sustainable development, evident in our vibrant green spaces, well-designed bike lanes, and scenic esplanades. And of course, our visitors can’t resist indulging in our mouthwatering cuisine!”
Boracay Island in Malay Aklan was the most visited destination last year with more than 1.7 million overnight travelers.
Bacolod City came in third with 618,000 visitors, followed by Negros Occidental with 510,000 visitors; Iloilo province with 300,000 visitors; Capiz with 169,000 visitors; Guimaras with 106,000 visitors; and Antique with 76,000 visitors.IMT
