The Iloilo City Government is intensifying the implementation of its ordinance that prohibits the use of modified mufflers in all public and private motor vehicles plying within the metropolis.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod approved during their regular session on Wednesday morning, May 24, the amended Anti-Modified Muffler Ordinance.

The maximum sound limit to be emitted from any motorcycle’s exhaust system must not exceed 99 decibels.

The ordinance also allows enforcers, including police officers, to confiscate modified mufflers from first to third-time offenders.

Aside from the confiscation, violators will be fined P1,000 for the first offense, P3,000 for the second offense and P5, 000 for the third and succeeding offenses.

Councilor Sedfrey Cabaluna, chairman of the Committee on Transportation, said the amendments were based on the new guidelines released by the Land Transportation Office (LTO).IMT
