The seven private hospitals in Iloilo City did not pursue their planned disengagement from the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).

They gave the state health insurer “one more chance” to fulfill its commitment to settle its debt amounting to P895 million (as of Nov. 30, 2021).

On December 29 and 31, both parties had a virtual meeting wherein PhilHealth through its president and chief executive officer Atty. Dante Gierran reiterated their appeal to hospitals not to pursue their plan of disengagement, which supposed to start on the first day of 2022.

“In the spirit of humane consideration and with the prevailing Yuletide season as well as for the welfare of the Filipino people who that was scheduled to start January 1,2022 and give PhilHealth ONE MORE CHANCE to fulfill its commitment up to Jan. 31, 2022 which is the period of extension of accreditation for the year 2021 per [PhilHeath] advisory dated Dec. 28, 2021,” the hospitals said in an advisory dated Dec. 31, 2021.

The seven hospitals are Iloilo Doctors Hospital (IDH), Iloilo Mission Hospital (IMH), Medicus Medical Center (MMC), Metro Iloilo Hospital and Medical Center (MIHMC), QualiMed Hospital (QMH), St. Paul Hospital Iloilo (SPHI), and The Medical City Iloilo (TMCI).

According to Iloilo Mission Hospital (IMH) administrator Dr. Elmer Pedregosa, president of the Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines-Iloilo, PhilHealth had actually asked for 90 days to fulfill its commitment but it will still depend on their assessment on PhilHealth’s payment during the one month period (Jan. 1 to 31, 2022).IMT
