Student-athletes from Iloilo City concluded the 2022 Batang Pinoy National Championships with 17 gold, 14 silver, and 15 bronze medals in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
Finishing at fourth place, the Ilonggos harvested a total of 46 medals in the five-day national sporting event which ran from December 17-21, 2022.
Attended by 18 local government units (LGUs) in the country, Iloilo City was led by Harvy Dolutan who snatched the first gold medal for Iloilo City after ruling the 14 & 15 years old boys cycling category in the 2022 Batang Pinoy National Championships. He outpowered 30 other participants from all over the country after a blistering finish.
Maria Louisse Crisselle Alejado also finished strong after ending the cycling 13 & under Girls category in second place. The 13-year-old athlete from Mandurriao National High School bannered the Iloilo City’s Criterium race and road race. Another cycling medalist included Alejado, Brendz Agyn Celerian who delivered a silver medal to Iloilo City
Moreover, Jay Emmanuel Sotaridona also wowed the crowd after winning in chess, 9 & under the blitz category.
Iloilo City was placed behind the City of Baguio, City of Pasig, Quezon City, and Laguna while edging the City of Lapu-Lapu which took the sixth place.
The team was accompanied by Executive Assistant for Sports Rudiver Jungco Sr. and Rein Dayot.
In a Facebook post, Jungco said they have delivered their promise to Bring Ilonggo athletes to the next level as they claimed the Top 5 spot in the Batang Pinoy National Championships 2022 at Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
“Big thanks to Almighty God for guiding and protecting us, especially our athletes. The journey was not easy but we made it safe and we succeeded without serious injuries. Our sincerest appreciation to all the athletes, coaches, and parents for trusting us and working with us to achieve one goal of making Iloilo City known in the field of sports,” he shared.IMT Sports
