Mayor Jerry Treñas wants Iloilo City to be the esports capital of the Philippines by 2023.
The city dad signed an executive order creating the Iloilo City Esports Committee (ICEC) that would pursue the initiative alongside local organization ILO Esports.
According to EO 134, the local government mandates its local esports committee to formulate and implement the Iloilo Esports Roadmap 2023 that will develop and sustain the gaming scene in the city.
“Our Iloilo City Sports Development Office had been fully committed to helping the council. We also activated our Youth Council to support the team. I am very supportive of the e-sports committee and I am very excited to make Iloilo City a powerhouse and the capital of e-sports,” said Treñas.
Jamar Montehermoso, the founder of ILO Esports, said as the LGU’s partner, they will execute gaming tournaments and workshops in Iloilo. Moreover, they will also create Ilonggo teams to play Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, League of Legends: Wild Rift, and Valorant.
“We plan to compete locally, including Moonton-organized bouts and tournaments that will be a ticket to the national and international stages,” he added.
ILO Esports is currently focusing on partnerships and community growth and planning to set up a headquarters later this year. In fact, the Iloilo City Esports Committee paid a courtesy call to Treñas last month and discussed the economic, technology, and social implications of propagating the local esports scene.
“I’m positive that there are also hidden gems all over the PH,” Montehermoso said, referring to local players who may excel in gaming, but lacks resources.IMT Sports
