An ordinance regulating the use of drones in Iloilo City has been filed in the Sangguninang Panlungsod (SP).
Authored by Councilor Lady Julie Grace Baronda, the proposed ordinance aims to ensure public safety.
According to her, drones or unmanned aerial vehicles may be used to for surveillance, contraband smuggling, and other illegal activities.
The city government also received several complaints about the misuse of drones to invade privacy.
Under the proposed ordinance, only drones that are registered with the Public Safety Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) will be allowed to fly.
PSTMO head Jeck Conlu assured that the registration process will be easy and fast.
Drone owners can operate either for recreational or commercial purposes except over government vital installations such as military camps and offices of the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine National Police, and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.IMT
