The Iloilo City Government is bracing for Omicron, the newly discovered variant of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Will the COVID-19 Team revert to stricter health measures because of this variant?
“Amo na ang ginabantayan ta,” Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said on Monday, Nov. 29.
According to Treñas, the City Compliance Team is closely keeping an eye on establishments, especially resto-bars and clubs, to ensure that minimum health standards are followed by their customers.
Treñas said he is signing a closure order for Lanai, a resto-bar in Mandurriao district, as recommended by the Compliance Team.
The resto-bar was found to have not been observing health protocols like physical distancing and wearing of face masks.
The city government is also issuing show cause notices, and closure and revocation orders to other erring establishments.
“We have no choice we will to close you especially nga amo ni may bag-o nga variant manigurado lang kita,” Treñas stressed.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified Omicron as a variant of concern (VOCs).
This variant, which was first detected in South Africa, has a large number of mutations, some of which are concerning, according to WHO.
It further noted that preliminary evidence suggests an increased risk of reinfection with this variant, as compared to other VOCs.IMT
