Iloilo biz group weighs proposal to place on hard lockdown areas with surging cases

Whatever proposal relative to the COVID-19 response of the government, it is discussed with local government units (LGUs).

This was the comment of Iloilo Business Club (IBC) executive director Lea Lara on the suggestion/proposal of the Philippine College of Physicians to place on hard lockdown areas with overwhelming cases of COVID-19 like the National Capit Region (NCR).

In Western Visayas, Iloilo City and province topped other highly urbanized cities and provinces with most number of active cases of the viral disease.

The IBC has no official statement yet regarding the proposal.

“I’m sure any proposals will have to be discussed with the LGUs’ COVID Teams and important sectors like us. The past months have been incredibly hard for the business sector,”said Lara.

Meanwhile, she underscored that the IBC, for its part, is supportive of businesses applying safety seal certifications.

Safety Seal is a certification of compliance to minimum public health standards set by the government for the protection of both consumers and personnel.

“It is voluntary man and hopefully with increased vaccination we will be able to prevent more people from getting to critical conditions,” said Lara.

According to her, it is a big help to sectors like them, the barangays and medical community to be part of the decision making process of LGUs.

Lara said that they may not like the decision sometimes like placing Iloilo under ECQ (enhanced community quarantine) in the past months but at least strategies and mutual support were discussed to coordinate resources.IMT
