Iloilo Kisela Knights maintained their winning streak in the ongoing Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP).
The Leo Sotaridona-owned professional chess team massacred Cavite, 19.5-1.5 before a commanding 12.5-8.5 victory over Cagayan on Wednesday night.
With the victory, the Ilonggo team is now cruising to a comfortable 14-1 win loss card and stays on top of the Southern Division ranking.
The Kisela Knights defeated Cavite in blitz game, 5.5-1.5, behind victories by Karl Victor Ochoa (Board 2), Rogelio Antonio Jr. (Board 4), Cesar Mariano (Board 5), and Rolly Parondo Jr. (Board 7) and draws by Giovanni Mejia (Board 1), Fiona Guirhem (Board 3) and Fritz Porras (Board 6).
They also continued their winning momentum over Cavite in rapid event, 14-0, with two-pointers each from Mejia, Ochoa, Guirhem, Antonio, Mariano, Porras and Parondo.
Playing against Cagayan, the team took the win in the blitz game, 4.5-2.5, behind wins by Silvederio (Board 1), Antonio (Board 4), Mariano (Board 5) and Parondo (Board 7), and draw by Ochoa (Board 2). They also defeated Cagayan in rapid event, 8-6, with two points each from Cherry Ann Mejia (Board 3), Antonio ans Parondo, and draws by Ochoa and Porras.
The team will face powerhouse teams of Caloocan and San Juan on Saturday. For Parondo, he said he said he’s enjoying every match in PCAP and at the same time, learn a lot.
“Napakaexciting ang laban kontra San Juan. Kilala ko most of their players at talagang magiging gitgitan ang laban na to sa tingin ko. Sa tingin ko need ko mag prepare at magpakondisyon ng maganda para makaambag sana sa team,” he added.
Meanwhile, Negros Kingsmen fell short from the hands of Laguna, 12-9, before bouncing back with a 14.5-6.5 victory against Isabela.
Negros edged Isabela in blitz game, 4.5-2.5, on triumphs by David Elorta (Board 2), Angelyn Biñan (Board 3), Alfredo Dumalag (Board 4) and Ellan Asuela (Board 5) and a draw by Alvin Alcala (Board 7). They also ruled the rapid event, 10-4, on victories by Edsel Montoya (Board 1), Biñan, Ted Montoyo (Board 6) and Alcala and draws by Elorta and Asuela.IMT Sports
