Iloilo City Councilor Plaridel Nava will be leaving his post effective September 1 this year.
In his resignation letter, Nava cited “personal and health reasons” for his decision to step down.
The letter dated Aug. 22 was submitted to President Bongbong Marcos and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Nava recommended his brother, Sumakwel Cordero Nava, Jr., to take the City Council seat he vacated.
“My brother and I belong to the same political party, PROMDI, and forthwith proper party nomination shall be made in accordance with the law,” he said.
In an interview over radio station DYSI Super Radyo-Iloilo, Nava said he felt “useless” and “lost his identity as fiscalizer.”
“Everyday, [may mga] tawo [nga] gakadto sa aton [pero] daw wala man ta may iduhol gid, wala man ta may ibulig. I feel useless bala.”
“Sa akon desire nga makabulig sa tawo nakipag-alyansa kita kay Mayor [Jerry] Treñas, nagpledge kita to support his administration so nadula na ang akon identity nga isa ka fiscalizer nga makatindog dira. I’m not the same Plaridel Nava anymore. I’m already restrained by that commitment nga mangin part na sang super majority sang konseho.”
Nava was elected councilor of the city in the May 2022 elections.IMT
