Security and public safety plans and measures are in place to ensure a safe observance of this year’s Holy Week in Western Visayas.
Police Brigadier General Flynn E. Dongbo, Police Regional Office (PRO- 6) director, said around 1,700 personnel have been deployed to identified strategic areas leading to churches, malls, terminals and other places of convergence.
The PRO-6 also tapped local government units (LGUs), barangay officials, and other force multipliers to help guard the public.
Police stations are expected to, among others, conduct random checkpoints, establish police assistance desks, and conduct mobile and detective patrol operations.
Dongbo advised the public to make sure that their houses are well-locked before leaving and their appliances are unplugged.
He also reminded them to be more prudent in posting on social media their whereabouts this Holy Week break.
“Additionally, it is recommended to have the contact numbers of rescue groups, Bureau of Fire Protection and nearby police units should there be a need for these agencies’ assistance. It is our goal that everyone will enjoy and be safe during the entire Holy Week celebration,” Dongbo added.
The Holy Week begins on Sunday, April 10 and ends on Saturday, April 16.IMT
