Higher penalty vs vehicles parking on bike lanes in Iloilo City pushed

Councilor Miguel Treñas is pushing to increase the penalty against those motorists who turn bicycle lanes into parking spaces.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod approved on Wednesday, Feb. 22, Treñas’ proposed ordinance on first reading.

The measure seeks to amend Section 6 of Regulation Ordinance No. 2016-299 or the Benigno Aquino Avenue bike lane ordinance.

Motorists found parking on bike lanes will be slapped with a higher fine from P2,000 to P5,000.

According Treñas, the imposition of higher penalty is a way to discipline erring motorists.

The proposed ordinance was referred to the Committee on Transportation headed by Councilor Sedfrey Cabluna.IMT
