More 50 high-profile golfers, association members, and decision-makers from all over the country are expected to take part in the first-ever Iloilo Golf Summit in Iloilo City on Sept. 20-22.
The delegates will “assess and discuss how best to improve golf tourism not only in Iloilo but also in other parts of the country.”
The Iloilo Golf & Country Club (IGCC) in Barangay San Sebastian, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo is considered as the oldest golf course in the country. It was founded in 1907.
Herminio L. Maravilla II, IGCC president, said they would also “draft and create an official resolution requesting the national government to declare 2020 as the ‘National Golf Tourism Year in the Philippines.'”
He believes that this would “pave the way for local and international golfers to discover and play in beautiful and challenging golf courses in the country.”
Lawyer Helen J. Catalbas, Department of Tourism (DOT-6) director, said: “This summit is the beginning of a domino effect for all tourism sector components here in Western Visayas from transport, accommodation, food and beverages, shopping and tours.”
“With Iloilo positioning itself as the new MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) destination in this part of the Philippines, we are positive that there will be significant increase in our tourist receipts and arrivals in the immediate future,” she added.
The event is organized by IGCC in partnership with the region’s tourism department. It is supported by the Iloilo Provincial Government and the Iloilo City Government.IMT
