Several passengers going to and from Guimaras have complained that taxi and tricycle drivers in Iloilo City are charging them with “exorbitant” fares.
The city government has already ordered the Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) to look into the alleged overcharging.
PSTMO head Jeck Conlu disclosed that he received three complaints against opportunist drivers.
One of the complainants, according to Conlu, claimed that a tricycle driver charged him P100 for a trip from a port in Lapuz district to Jaro district.
Another complainant revealed that he was demanded by a taxi driver to pay a fixed rate of P300 for a short trip.
Conlu assured that all drivers proven guilty of overcharging their passengers will be slapped with penalties.
“I am warning all taxi drivers and tricycle drivers who take advantage of passengers from Guimaras by charging exorbitant fares,” said Mayor Jerry P. Trenas.
He urged the public to report erring drivers to PSTMO (5th floor, Iloilo City Hall) or the Office of the City Mayor (7th floor).
Passengers can also send their complaints thru the official Facebook pages of the two offices.
Due to the suspension of pumpboat trips from Iloilo City to Guimaras and vice versa, authorities allowed fast craft and RORO vessels to ferry passengers from and to Guimaras.IMT
